Individual Therapy

My practice includes women and men between the ages of 16 and 80. I have expertise in working with depression, anxiety, relationship and marital issues, women’s health, sports performance and stress. We can initially focus on a short-term plan of action by dealing with recent acute problems, or focus on chronic problems that can take more time to sort out. Either way, we identify positive goals, and begin our work together. When appropriate, I may refer to a physician for medication management.

Couples Therapy

Couples enter therapy because one or both people desire change. Our first goal is to identify what each person wants and how each partner might feel satisfied in the relationship. We work to change the negative behaviors that are causing problems, and also to accentuate the positive aspects of the relationship. Some benefits of couples therapy include being happy together again, appreciating each others strengths and weaknesses, and negotiating those problems that seem so difficult.

College Students

I have had a long interest in working with college students. Students can suffer from anxiety, depression, and issues of self-esteem, identity, shyness, family relationships, and adjustment problems. Therapy can help students get back on a positive track. My office is on the University of Michigan campus, which makes it very convenient for students to fit an appointment into their busy schedules. Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Michigan includes me in their referral list.

Women’s Health Issues

I have been involved in women’s health issues since 1973 when I worked at the Women’s Health Center in Detroit. I have experience with the full range of psychological issues for women including self-esteem, abuse, depression, anxiety, and the emotional aspects of physical problems such as PMS, pregnancy, abortion, post-partum blues, and menopause.

Sports Psychology

I am a certified sports counselor and have worked with a professional soccer team. Individual athletes can benefit from performance enhancing coaching, which includes developing high performance thinking and changing negative performance patterns. Most major sport teams and sport figures have a sport psychologist who works with the players. High school and college sport athletes who want to improve their playing ability can benefit from an individualized plan.

Stress Management/Reduction

I offer stress management sessions which include deep breathing, guided imagery, meditation, and psychotherapy to deal with the specific stressful issues.
